Install the Subtext extension in Chrome on desktop and sign in with Google. In Messenger or Instagram, open a message’s ⋯ menu and choose Read with Subtext.

Reload the chat tab once after installing or updating.

Scroll up so earlier messages are on screen, then ask again.

Trying again reconnects to it. Failed readings never count.
